Even though in cities like Helsinki, the mayor and deputy mayors have a lot of responsibility, it is good to remember that the city council elected by city dwellers is the highest decision making body!

In other words, the distribution of power among different parties in the council is more important than who ends up becoming the mayor. For example, a strong Left party, like we have in Helsinki now with 11 out of 85 seats, ensures a good life for everyone, and not just the few!

Wow, I did not know that! Does this mean that one doesn't need to pay too much attention to who is the mayor candidate? Definitely not! It is good for voters to think about who would make the best decision maker. For example, experience, boldness, softness and ease of reaching out are important aspects that make the best mayor candidate.

Of course! But why does the Helsinki Left party have so many mayor candidates? Such as suburb mayor, sports mayor, library mayor, youth mayor and culture mayor? Actually, we only have one mayor candidate who wears many hats, Paavo Arhinmäki!
